Indie Author Event ~ Neeny Boucher & 2 Giveaways!!

If you like your characters quirky, socially awkward and badly behaved, this is the book for you. What if you got another chance with the love of your life even when you didn’t want one? Would you grab the opportunity or run as fast as you could in the opposite direction?

Christina Martin, lawyer, ex high school grunge queen, teenage bride, divorcee and once a suspected killer, is confronted by a past that she has spent the last eight years carefully avoiding. Drawn back to her hated hometown with her family under the worst of circumstances, matters are complicated when she finds the love of her life, ex husband and nemesis, Nicholas Riley, also in residence.

Riley, a man with secrets, who has a penchant for psychological games, made wary by life and with one weakness, his ex wife. Christina is the woman that brings out all his protective instincts and others less noble. All it takes is one fateful night, where these two collide, opening a door both thought slammed shut and locked forever.

From the past to the present, Christina and Riley show that true love doesn’t always run smoothly, it might not conquer all and most importantly, love is complicated.

“Lost in Flight” is book one in the “Complicated Love Series.”

 Get To Know You Interview

Tell us is there any think about you that people don't all ready know?

I'm a newbie, so there are probably lots of things people don't know about me.  I'm a wife and mother.  I love children.  I love animals.  I love sports, particularly watching, and a film/TV fanatic.  I grew up by the ocean and I love it.  If I'm away from it for too long I feel like a part of me is missing.

Your books are so emotional. How long does it take for you to be able to get the characters out of your mind and move on to the next?

The ideas for books come from inside of you, so sometimes they do get emotional.  My characters feel like friends and family.  At times, like annoying friends and family, especially when they're behaving badly, but I'm enormously fond of all of them - even the horrible ones.
I'll let you know when that happens!  I think it has to be a natural process.  I'm sure when the story is finished, we'll all move on.

Are the names of the characters in your novels important?

Yes. They are.  Most of the names are chosen as word play or in honor of real life loved ones.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?

I write in bursts, so I can seclude myself for long periods of time.  I think the most important things I've found is to spend time with your family and friends.  Make that time to get away from the writing and connect with real people, and not the ones chattering in my head.  I also find a community of like-minded people help as well.  People that know what you're doing intimately and encourage you on.

How do you react to a bad review of one of your books?

I'm philosophical about it and it depends on how the message is delivered.  If people have good points, I think we should always take them into consideration.  It helps a writer get better.  If it's because someone hasn't connected to the work there's not a lot I can do about that.  I understand that not everyone will like my work or characters, so I focus on the positives.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

I have to listen to music when I write.  If I don't have a 'muse' (a song) then I go into stasis and can't write.  I tend to write quickly, but the editing takes me forever.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I have learned so much from this process.  Everything has been new - from writing this type of genre, to getting the work published.  It has been incredibly fascinating and a steep learning curve, but I have met some incredible people along the way.  If I hadn't embarked on this course, I never would have met them and I'm so thankful that I did.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes!  That socially awkward and at times, badly behaved, people deserve love too, and there is no perfect love affair.  It's what you make of love and life.  Choose love and light!  Not anger and darkness - although the darkness can be every bit as intoxicating as a heady love affair.

Have you ever read or seen yourself as a character in a book or a movie?

Yes!  All the time and from the moment I was a little child right up to the present.  In my head, I've been everything from Elizabeth Bennett to Lisbeth Salander.

Who designed the covers?

My cover was designed by the wonderful Damon from Damonza.com

Describe in 5 words, your writing:

Awkward, funny, cringe-inducing, complicated, twisty ...

When your were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a veterinary until I realized they euthanized animals and I changed my mind.

What do you use to write your book?

Apple Laptop and the radio.

Do you listen to music while you writing or reading?

Absolutely. Music is integral to this whole process.

Tell us your latest news?

I'm debuting Lost in Flight on 22 November.  I cannot wait.

What book are you reading now?

"Making Faces" by Amy Harmon

Do you have a nickname?

Yes.  One of my favorite people in the world calls me "moll."  I should be offended, but she's from Down Under.

What are your pet peeves?

Toothpaste caps left off, people that don't clean up a spill, when the house is a mess and I didn't notice until "right now".

Do you ever write naked?

Not full-naked, but I have written topless.

What is your favourite Starbuck’s/coffee shop drink?

Espresso machiato

What's your favourite fruit?

Apples, but they have to be crunchy.

What's your favourite tv show?

Grey's Anatomy

One of your favourite quotes -

Ernest Hemingway's “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”  A wonderful group of women (PLNs/Iron vaginas) sent me that quote for this - my debut novel.  I'll treasure it always.

Do you enjoy giving interviews?

This is my first one and it's been great!

Top Ten Book Boyfriends

Okay:  time for confession.  I don't have a lot of book boyfriends.  There are no fictional men I'd leave my husband for, but if I was single:

Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights
Rochester from Jane Eyre
Riley from Lost in Flight
Lucas from Easy
Caleb from the Love me with Lies series
Toombs from Beats
Will Bennett from Him/Her
Giovanni from Elemental Mysteries
Ambrose Young from Making Faces

Five Fun Facts:

I'm allergic to metal and can only wear gold, and silver.  I tell my children I am actually Magneto.
I can light fires with one match and a scrap of paper.  I secretly pretend I have pyrokinesis.
I once worked on a gondola and I'm afraid of heights.
My pen name is my porn name.
I fall in love with black and white cats.  If I see one, I want to take them home.

Thank you so much for taking part. We can't wait to read more work from you.

Neeny Boucher is a nom de plume because her real name sounds like a 19th Century suffragette. She is a lover of the weird, the outcast and those on the margins of society. An appreciator of music, art, film, television, popular culture, social encounters and the human condition. Originally from New Zealand, she is a strong supporter of the All Blacks, has lived all over the world and is currently a trailing spouse in a picturesque village in Switzerland with two wonderful children.

Her employment history is varied and has ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, not to mention, the messy. The sublime: teaching. The ridiculous: tour guide on a gondola when she has an irrational fear of heights. The messy: cleaning out turkey houses in Israel waiting for the European winter to pass.

She has done all sorts of things she wouldn’t allow her children to do, including hitchhiking around southern Africa in her wild youth. All the experiences, however, provided the opportunity to par-take in her favorite past time of people watching. A collector of amazing stories, Neeny decided it was time to put them in fiction, allowing readers to enjoy them as much as she did.

As soon as Lost in Flight is released the prize will go out!!
